Lions Club of Melbourne Deaf and Hard of Hearing
In 2024, the Melbourne Deaf and Hard of Hearing Lions Club proudly took over the operations of the Chelsea District Lions Club, extending its support to individuals with hearing impairments and their families across Melbourne.
The Chelsea District Lions Club had a long-standing history, having served the bayside community of Chelsea and its surrounding areas—Aspendale, Aspendale Gardens, Chelsea Heights, Edithvale, and Bon Beach—since its establishment in 1978.
Recognising a growing need for a safe and inclusive environment for those with hearing loss, the Chelsea District Lions Club initiated the formation of the Melbourne Deaf and Hard of Hearing Lions Club in 2020.
This club meets monthly online, providing captioning and Auslan interpreters, and also gathers in person to engage with the community and support various club initiatives.

Making a difference
Each of the service clubs within Australia is grouped by state and then into districts. There are five districts within Victoria, and we do great work in District 201V5, located within Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs, along with Healesville, Marysville, Eildon, Yea, Seymour, Nagambie, Euroa, Shepparton and Dookie.
