Our club

Lions Club of Heathmont

Chartered on 11th March,1971, the Lions club of Heathmont has a modest, but active, membership of fourteen.

Our major fundraiser is our Community Farmers Market, which is held on the first Sunday of each month, at Great Ryrie Primary School in Heathmont.

The support of our local community, and their patronage at the Market, make it possible for us to provide assistance to a number of local and more distant entities. Some examples from recent years include:

  • The Freedom Initiative ( our Club assists by providing groceries (lGA Ringwood East) to TFl to make up food hampers for needy locals).
  • The Long Hai School/Orphanage – Vietnam (a project made possible by generous access to wood, then cut and delivered to local customers by our members).
  • Local Families, by sponsoring children to enjoy one of the seasonal Children’s Camps at the Lions Licola Wilderness Village.
  •  Lions Disaster Relief (providing centralised emergency help I.e bush fires, floods, and other destructive events).

Our Club has also been pleased to provide support to:

  • Salvation Army – Eastern Palliative Care
  • Holy Fools (Lilydale)
  • Canteen – Bridge Builders ( a support group for teen-aged girls)
  • Tamminya House -Bayswater
  • Education Build Bridges (a Lions project -sponsoring young students in Indonesia in their schooling)
  • The Family Room at Box Hill Hospital’s Oncology Unit (financial assistance to refurbish).

We are looking forward positively, moving into the 2020’s, with new members providing fresh ideas, and our current venture : facilitating the birth of a Leos Club (Lions Club for younger people) in our local area.

Our Club welcomes enquiries from anyone who would like to participate in a community service club/group in our local area. Please contact us as shown on this webpage, or catch up at the Market.

Meanwhile, we sincerely thank members of our local community for their support, whether through shopping at our Market, support via Christmas Cake purchases, or other means.

We would not be able to provide much needed assistance/support , and enjoy working as Lions, without your generosity.

Making a difference

Each of the service clubs within Australia is grouped by state and then into districts. There are five districts within Victoria, and we do great work in District 201V5, located within Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs, along with Healesville, Marysville, Eildon, Yea, Seymour, Nagambie, Euroa, Shepparton and Dookie.
