Our club

Lions Club of Boroondara Central

The Lions Club of Boroondara Central was formed on 18th June1997 from the combined membership of the former Lions Clubs of Camberwell and Balwyn. The club was originally chartered as the Camberwell Lions Club, on 18 October 1957, so we are celebrating 64 years of service to the community in 2021.

Our aim is to be there for those in our community who find themselves in need of help, particularly for those who cannot get support from government agencies and the like.

Our main source of income comes from the sale of Christmas Cakes and our vibrant Opportunity Shop which is run with the help of a band of enthusiastic volunteers. This has enabled our Club to raise and donate over $200,000 in the past 6 years, which has been distributed widely within our local community, Australia and to overseas projects.

Making a difference

Each of the service clubs within Australia is grouped by state and then into districts. There are five districts within Victoria, and we do great work in District 201V5, located within Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs, along with Healesville, Marysville, Eildon, Yea, Seymour, Nagambie, Euroa, Shepparton and Dookie.

Club meetings

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The first part of the evening is a social dinner, when we invite a guest speaker or a representative of an organisation which needs our assistance. The second part of the evening is a business meeting when office bearers give their reports, correspondence is tabled and projects discussed.
