Lions Club of Monash

Club History

Monash Lions Club is the initiative of Mr. Guduru (Gee) Rao who gathered people to charter our Club in December 2011. Gee has been an active member in the Lions movement since the early 1970s, including serving as President of the City of Melbourne Lions Club (our host Club) in 1979.

We celebrated the 10th Anniversary of our Club in 2021. Most of our members reside in the City of Monash, but it is not necessary to reside in this region to become a member of Monash Lions Club.

Our Mission

To raise funds or provide voluntary services for local and international communities in need, thereby creating strong bonds within and between communities.

Our activities

Over the years, we have raised funds and undertaken service activities to support a number of causes, including – autism and other disabilities; asylum seekers; international students; family violence; Eastern Palliative Care; Monash Children’s Hospital; disaster relief; foodbank; aged care and inter-generational relationships, to name a few.

We welcome new members. We are a friendly and caring Club.

You can make a difference. Join Monash Lions Club.

Making a difference

Each of the service clubs within Australia is grouped by state and then into districts. There are five districts within Victoria, and we do great work in District 201V5, located within Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs, along with Healesville, Marysville, Eildon, Yea, Seymour, Nagambie, Euroa, Shepparton and Dookie.

Club meetings

Monash Lions Club meets every month to discuss issues and plan for activities. Generally the meetings are held on the 2nd or 3rd Thursday evening each month (depending on the availability of members). Meetings are usually held on-line, however, Annual General Meetings are held face to face in a celebratory manner.
